Located between Camogli, Portofino, and Santa Margherita Ligure, this reserve is one of Italy’s most famous marine sanctuaries. It was established in 1999 and covers about 350 hectares of sea along the Portofino coast. Moreover, it protects rich underwater habitats filled with groupers, moray eels, red coral, and vibrant gorgonian forests. As a result, it preserves one of the Mediterranean’s most biodiverse marine ecosystems.
You will discover the Paraggi Bay: a small gem nestled between Santa Margherita Ligure and Portofino. Its lush Mediterranean vegetation and steep hillsides offer calm, sheltered waters for you to enjoy swimming and snorkeling. Near the shore, you can easily spot rich marine life such as Posidonia meadows, corals, and starfish.
At the bay’s eastern edge you will dicover the Castello di Paraggi, proudly perched on a rocky promontory. This square stone fortress was built in 1626 by the Republic of Genoa to defend the Tigullio coast. Later, it was occupied by Napoleonic troops between 1812 and 1814. Over the years, it underwent several restorations and, eventually, became a private residence.
Baia Cannone is a charming, small cove just outside Portofino, loved by locals and visitors alike. You’ll be able to dive in these crystal-clear waters and make the most of the perfect visibility for snorkeling.
Moreover, Baia Cannone also serves as a mooring spot for yachts. As a result, it has a unique and exclusive atmosphere. Among its most famous regulars are M/Y Boardwalk (Tillman Fertitta) and M/Y Whisper (Magic Johnson).
We will enter the Portofino harbour, enjoying a unique view of the village. From the water, you’ll admire Castello Brown, the Church of San Giorgio, and the world-famous Piazzetta.
Portofino’s fame grew from its natural charm and long-standing allure to artists and elite travellers. Once a small Roman fishing village, it stayed quiet until the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

As we’ll turn aroudn the penisnsula, you’ll be able to see The Portofino Lighthouse. Ultimately, the most famous active lighthouse situated at the western tip of the Portofino Peninsula. Constructed in 1917, it stands 12 meters tall and is positioned 40 meters above sea level. The lighthouse emits a white flash every 5 seconds, visible up to 16 nautical miles, and is fully automated, operated by the Italian Navy.
The San Fruttuoso Bay is a secluded cove nestled between Camogli and Portofino. Accessible only by boat or via hiking trails through the Portofino Regional Park.
Discover San Fruttuoso Abbey: a historic Benedictine monastery nestled in a secluded bay of San Fruttuoso. Its origins trace back to the 8th century, with legend attributing its foundation to Greek monks who carried the relics of Saint Fructuosus.
Today, San Fruttuoso Abbey stands as a testament to Liguria’s rich history and architectural heritage.
You’ll be able to dive and admire the Christ of the Abyss: a submerged bronze statue located in San Fruttuoso Bay. It was placed in 1954 to commemorate Dario Gonzatti and to honor all who lost their lives at sea. The statue, about 2.5 meters tall and rests at a depth of roughly 17 meters, making it the MOST POPULAR site for divers and snorkelers in the Mediterranean.
